Panic attacks are sort of a new phenomenon so little is understood about them. They are caused by a unnatural release of adrenalin that cause your BP and hear rate to rise. They also cause heart palpitations so a lot of people think end up in the ER thinking they are having a heart attack. Anxiety is definitely related to depression and stress.
Exercise and meditation are natural ways to alleviate stress. However, if you are having panic attacks you should stop them. You can fall into a cycle were you have attacks stressing about having attacks. In other words the more attacks you have the more you will have. Thus you should do whatever is necessary to stop them.
Benzodiazapines (xanax, valium, clonazapam) will not kill you. A small dose of xanax should get rid of your attacks or better yet prevent them from happening in the first place. Benzo's work on the Gaba receptors in the brain and should not cause any heart conditions. There are other things you can do as well.
You could try breathing techniques or valerian root. Of course prescription drugs are going to be much more effective. You should also not consistently read about panic attacks. Everything you read on the internet should be taken with a grain of salt, including this. Your doctor, or better yet a specialist, is the best person to seek advice from.

Hi Jaime,
I know exactly how you feel. Feels like your going crazy right especialy after 4 days?? Dont worry Jaime, these are common symptoms of anxiety disorder and panic attacks. They are easily treatable now adays. You will hav to chat with your Doc again about certain meds. Some people need meds with anxiety disorder and some dont. And some stay on meds for only months and some take meds only when they feel an attack coming on and some dont take any at all. Its up to you and you Doc. But i would suggest atleast considering them if you have these often. Dont worry bro, you will be ok. Take some deep breaths for now and ask yourself whats the worse that can happen? If you have trouble sleeping email me and i will send you some good over the counter sleeping alternatives.
God Bless

oh you need Lucinda Bassett's program. I have had panic attacks starting at the age of about `12. I was on all kinds of meds and nothing has helped. As a matter of fact it got worse over time. I am 30 now and have not had one it TWO year. This WORKS. There is no medicane involved. This is the best thing that ever happened to me and I know it will work for you too.

You know I had given you my suggestion before.Did you start taking your amino acids?
Have you been exercising?Have you been praying about this? You have no idea how much amino acids help reduce stress & thats exactly where this anxiety & panic come from stress!!!Take your essential B vitamins this also helps the nervous system.I started doing all of the above things & it has helped me tremendously.Panic attacks are a VERY scary thing.Remember PRAY.Find a local church where you feel comfortable & ask them to pray for you.But if your extremely desperate then you'll probably have to take medication.I wish you the best of luck!!!Your so young I really do pray that you'll have complete healing.

If you are 15 chances are there is nothing seriously wrong with your heart.Abnormal heart rhythms are not uncommon, especially in young people. You need to be evaluated by a psychologist. I have never heard of a medication taking 6 months to work. Your Dr. is BS-ing you. Often times with the appropriate therapy, medication is NOT needed.

I too have panic attacks and they are scary. it seems you get them often though. I would seriously take the doctor's advice because they are no joke. It is dangerous especially if you are driving. tell him/her about your concerns for becoming addicted to the meds. They will work to find a solution for you :) Good luck!
