I will be turning 21 in 2 months and currently I dont have any medical, dental, or vision insurance. If I didn't want to go through my job for the insurance, how else could i establish it?

My monthly income is around 2k/month right now. I'm working 2 jobs and saving up for school coming up in Fall. I dont know if that makes a difference or not in the insurance but I'll listen to your answers!

You can contact insurance companies and compare rates but honestly it will cost you less if you go through your employer. The monthly premiums will be much lower and they take it out of your check so you don't even feel it.

First of all... it is far cheaper to be insured on your companies group insurance plan then it is to purchase insurance on your own. In addition, you usually get better benefits from the employer plan than you get from an individual plan. Once you compare the benefits and cost of the group plan to the individual plan you will see that its no contest... the employer group plan will win.

If, however, you insist on getting individual insurance there are insurance agents listed in the yellow pages that will help you find coverage. They usually get paid by the insurance company that you get the plan from (although they may sometimes ask for a fee from you as well). Insurance for males is usually cheaper than for females and of course the younger you are the cheaper the cost.

Buying individual dental coverage is rare because the only people that purchase dental benefits individually are those that plan to use it, and they will want to cancel the coverage the minute their dental treatment is done. Individual vision is rare.

Rethink the employer plan.

If you are offered insurance from your job, you're better off taking it as they are probably paying part of the premium.

If you go through a private company like Blue Cross Blue Shield, you're going to end up paying about $150-$200 a month and have a $2,000 deductible.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to do it through your job. When companies offer insurance as a benefit, it's becuase it's subsidized. You'll never find better insurance privately. If it's any good, it will be insanely expensive.
