Bacteria can exist on the bar soap but not enough to consider it dirty still as you are not transferring the bacteria back to your body you're washing yourself. Take caution by not placing the bar of soap in a holder that has a pool of water and allow it dry between uses to discourage bacteria growth.
What is the most unclean is your wash cloth because the fibers can actually hold the bacteria and accumulate. But you're been pretty much using a basic wash cloth and a bar of soap all your life without problems so there should be no issue now.
The very cleanest choice would be to use a squeezable body wash and a sponge.

You wash it up before you exit the bathroom....
It will help remove dirt on the soap

Does it? Or is it just that you can't see the dirt.
I guess that the chemicals like caustic soda that are in it distroy the grease/dirt/bacteria.
