In the book of Genesis Abraham was told by god to take his son Issac to a mountain and sacrifice him as a test of faith.
I was just wondering what people would do if you were told to make the same sacrifice, would or could you do this for your beliefs?

Very interesting question. I don't have kids of my own and I aren't religious so I aren't best qualified to answer this one but I can't see me killing any child in the name of God. Why would it be neccessary to kill a child? Even as the maximum test of faith it stinks and I'd actually consider spitting in the eye of that God. He would be practically saying to you that it would please Him greatly if you made the rest of your Earth life completely worthless for ever more as long as you did as He asked.

This was at a specific time for a specific purpose to a specific person. And it wasn't something that actually happened. As someone else mentioned, God stopped him and sent him a replacement sacrifice of a ram. God is not in the habit of asking people to kill their kids. In fact, he destroyed people and societies who had the practice of child sacrifice because He abhorred it so much.
I don't believe we would be put in that position of having to choose to sacrifice our kids - not by God anyway! So the answer is no.

When my son was born a Christian friend of mine said he was truly a gift from God. He also said that because God had given him to me i should be prepared for God to take him away. It wasn't a nice thought but you have to face reality sometime. Having said that i don't know if i could sacrifice him but then again God wouldn't want me to sacrifice him it would be a test of faith!. Don't know if I'd pass. Damn good question!

I think that is a disgusting way to get you to show your faith in god!. How dare anyone put thier belief in god before thier own children?. Why would this god want to be so cruel as to cause such a decision in a human that could be life long damaging, if this god was so good?. Dont' get me started!!!!!!.lol.

God chose the time and Abraham for that teaching. Not us, not now, so don't worry about it. It was a test and lesson in faith and don't forget---God STOPPED Abraham from doing it! God would not ask you to sacrifice your children. Jesus already took care of all the sacrificing past, present, and future.

1. I would, if I was sure it was from God. HOWEVER, I seriously doubt that God would want me to do that. And if he did, ask me to do that-I am sure he would provide a way out. God is not about human sacrifices.
2. For Abraham, you have to remember that this was a test of allegience. God said he would be the father of many...and this was a test to see if him FINALLY having a son to carry on his family line and following God's laws were more important than him being obedient to GOD.
One strange thing God calls me to do is to be faithful to my wife. In our western culture this is a foreign & some would say insane concept. However, because God has called me to be faithful to my wife & to enjoy her alone. I will strive to obey him-because I desire to obey him & to honor my wife.
