you should update your virus detector first .then restart your computer and hit f8 for advanced options tell windows to run in safe mode then have your virus blocker check only your system drive it will probably find a worm i had it before and you need to do these steps to get rid of it or when you restart your computer it will restore the virus from your recycler shell folder s-11589s- etc. if this doesn't work i am sorry but hey i tried right but i assure you its not a wast of time it worked for me

It seems that the problem is associated with ur compression software. Uninstall any compression software u may have as the windows XP have inbuit compression capability, known by the name compressed folders. When we install any cmpression software they remove the compressed folders from the Right CLick sub menu thus we are not able to see that.
It can be found here in ur system
C:\Documents and Settings\Your_login or User name\SendTo
Just drag the files u want to compress and password protect too.
Coming To the promblem , if u dnt want to remove the software , u can scan ur system witht he Antivirus , an updated one and an antispyware, again updated one.
Norton and Lavasofts Ad-aware is wat I ll suggest u.
U can Free download these two from here
www.i-search.co.in
Scan ur system in the safe mode only and delete/quarantine any malware u found .
Ans yes dnt for get to disable system resore before scanning in the safe mode.
Best of Luck !!!

i think that there occur an hard drive error which may be caused by full usage of disk.Decompression requires some temporary space in hard drive.Or else ur comression utility may have some problems.better try to decompress by windows in built compression utility.or pls reinstal ur compression utility.
I am studying in 12th std in kerala. If there is any mistake in my answer pls inform me and guide me. nikhildas13@yahoo.co.in
