I already swore in and singned my contract at MEPS, a week ago. I am scheduled to leave for basic training in June. But yesterday my recruiter called me saying that MEPS called him stating that when they did my background check, I have a warrant from 10 years ago, for some community service I did not finish from a Theft Under $300(stole a few cd's). My recruiter is saying they are doing everything possible to work this out.I am afraid that I will be discharged or kicked out. If this is the case..could I still be elegible to join the US Army??

No military service will touch you until you get your legal issues cleared up.

If you aren't cleared for the Navy the same is true for the Army. They have the same information on you at MEPS and your name is in the system for all branches not to let you go anywhere until you clear things up with the warrant. If you don't ever clear it up, you will be discharged from the Navy and put on list so you won't be able to enlist with any service for 7 years. Get your stuff together and fix things. Also, I really hope you didn't change your screen name and that you aren't the same person who has been asking these same questions for weeks now. The last word is get your stuff cleared up or you won't be joining the military at all.

Yes. You will have to however, take care of your debt. That is what I will call it. You will need to get your warrant cleared up by paying a fine, and will probably wind up doing some community service, or work release. Once you have finished this, because it is a misdemeanor, you should be fine to go into the army. Why did you switch from attempting to join the Navy, to the Army anyways? ... interesting.. good luck.

Your best bet would be to take care of the warrant because the process is the same for all four branches of service and you can end up will a PDQ (permanently disqualified) and u have no chance of joining any service. Take pride in ur decision and take the proper steps to continue ur process.

You can't get into the Army with an open warrant, and until all the stipulation of the case are cleared. Call the court, get it taken care of. When its taken care of you can get into the Army with no problem.

Why don't you contact the place where you owe community service and take care of your obligation. Then you can join with a clear conscience and be proud you took care of your obligations. That is about half the battle in the military is being responsible for your assigned duties.

Nope. MEPS covers all branchs of the military and until you get that cleared from your record or at least resolved, you're just stuck.

Finish the community service and rejoin.

If the Navy decides that they don't want you, the Army probably won't either. But if you have kept your nose clean for these past ten years, it is difficult to imagine that the old case would be disqualifying.

You will more than likey need to resolve that indiscretion and it will help your case to get it taken care of. If you choose to join any other branch of military.

they are trying to get some concessions back from you...stick to your guns, be honest about what happened, and quit lying and stealing...you get caught doing this crap while in the navy, not only will you get a "code red" you will get a dishonarable discharge..which will screw up any chance of any benefits or a good job down the line....
