All of my husband's family tend to have babies with big heads. Actually, all the babies are around 9 to 11 lbs. when they are born.

I am a 4'11" woman and I am very petite.

When we have kids, what are my chances of having a huge baby with a huge head.

I am very scared about needing a c-section, because I'm afraid of blood and I'm afraid of them removing the staples.

Does anyone have any idea, what is the norm.

The usual practice of our bodies is to grow babies according to our size, the fathers DNA doesnt add a whole lot to that in most cases. However, its not impossible for a small woman to have a large baby that she cannot give birth to vaginally.

You doctor takes measurements of the baby via ultrasound all through your pregnancy. So you will know for sure.

The average hight of a woman before this century was only 5' 2". And many a baby was born by tiny women who were shorter than average. Dont let it freak you out.

Having staples removed is not painful. The skin they are in is thick and dried, its like picking a very very dry dead scab. Its not painful, it feels cleansing actually.

Youre going to have blood all over you, and see all sorts of blood, and touch all kinds of blood whether you have a c-section or vaginal delivery. In fact, when they give you your baby it will be covered in blood. Its part of life. You can either let it become an irrational fear, or you can get over it.

I suggest you get over it.

No matter what you go through to get that baby, I promise you it will be worth it. I just went through 43 1/2 hours of labor, he had a 13 1/2 inch head, i dont know whats average. I promise it was worth every second. You'll be fine.

They'll have a pretty good idea of baby's head size before the baby is born. My son had a big head himself. He measured at 13 when he was born! I did have a c/section. I saw no blood. I didn't feel staples going in or coming out. I'm rather glad I had a c/section instead of having a vaginal birth. I honestly don't think he would have fit if I had tried to have a natural birth. My reason for c/section was a failed 2nd epidural which resulted in a failure to progress!!

I don't know what the norm is, I just know what my family is like. My daughter and my nephew both have Charlie Brown heads-big and round. My son's head was much smaller, and he looks like my husband did as a baby. My husband is 6'3 by the way, and I'm 5'4. I did have c-sections for other reasons, and my doc did not use staples, he used glue on the external incision, so nothing had to be removed.

The baby's size usually depends on the MOTHER'S size at her own birth. And 13" is the norm I believe for head circumference. Stop stressing!!! You'll be fine. Women have been birthing babies like, forever! Big heads and all.

You can't tell ahead of time what your baby will be like, since it's a factor of the genetics of both parents.

Long before you give birth you'll have ultrasounds and measurements to see how big your baby is. At that time you and your obstetrician can discuss your options.

Just remember, no matter how it comes out of you, what you really care about is your beautiful healthy baby!!
