Raw Celery and Carrots are great vegetable low calorie snacks that are very good for you, and not that high in sugar & fat like many other fruits. I.E. Although apples provide many nutrients, vitamins and etc...very high in sugar. Carrots do have a trace amount of sugar. So raw celery sticks as a low fat, low sugar snack is your best bet..it's mainly water, and in reality if it's plain and raw, it takes more calories to digest than it actually gives you. Great diet food...but it gets old fast.

almost all raw veggies are low in calories. In fact I can't even think of any high calorie veggies. Fruits, also are generally low in calories but high in carbs. Think of carbohydrates as pure sugar, because that's how your body treats them. All foods are either a fat, a protein, or a carbohydrate or a combination of these three components. If you eat bacon for instance, it is a combination of fat and protein, but mostly fat and unless you can quickly burn off the fat the body will store it, thus you gain weight. If you eat an orange or even a baked potato, which is mostly a carbohydrate, your body will use it to generate energy and if you don't use up all the 'energy' your body will convert the leftover into 'fat'. This is why you have to watch the amount of carbs you eat. If you eat a piece of fish, which is high in protein, you body will use the protein to nourish muscles. But the problem with eating too much protein is that much of it is very high in cholesterol which can clog arteries. The best thing to do is eat a balanced diet of the three. Mostly protein, some carbs, and a little fat.

Most veggies are very low in calories. It's what you put on them is what makes them high in calories. If you must add something try to avoid cheese. Use low fat dressings and dips.

Fruits that are lowest in calories are berries, cantaloupe, and small apples
