You can, but it won't be easy. Plus, you'll lose all of the data on your hard drive as well as all the software that came with it, plus you may violate your warranty.
Before you start, make sure that you have a new, legal copy of Windows XP. Not an upgrade, the full version. Next, you need to download XP drivers for all the harware and peripherals in you system - CD/DVD drive, hard drive, controllers, sound card, video card etc. Burn these to a CD and hold on to them since they may be necessary.
The first thing to do is boot off of your XP CD. Go into the repair console and tell it to format the hard drive. This will wipe out everything on your disc and is the point of no return, so be sure you've got everything and know what you're doing, because there is no going back past this point. Once the drive is formatted, boot off the CD and tell it to install Windows, and follow the instructions. You may need your driver CD at some point, so have it handy. After the install finishes, you must do Windows Update to get the latest patches and fixes. From your Start menu, select Windows Update. This may take several hours and require multiple reboots, but keep updating it until it says there are no more updates. The entire process will probably take 3-6 hours, depending upon how fast the computer is, how fast your network connection is, and if you run into any problems. Once you finish installing and updating XP, then you can start installing your old software (the new software that came with the computer will be gone, and even if you have them on disc they probably won't run on XP).

Take it back! Or do something!
I told a samething to the other person because he bought a computer with Windows Vista from Best Buy.
Best Buy and other known companies are leading customers to disaster. If they would do that then that would strips all their credibility down to the marrow bone. Best Buy's cronies Geek Squad would be the dumbest enforcer of computer problems.
When Best Buy and Geek Squad suggested Windows Vista. Don't take their word of it, take the words from people who already got Windows Vista and crying out in agony.
Do you know?
Microsoft have lied stating that they make Windows Vista a backward compatiablity. This cause misguided customer to oblivion. They will then found out that their softwares is not compatiable and were screwed.
Microsoft Programmer said that it 99.5% completes, does that make it right to sell a broken operation system?
If Windows Vista is still a beta then why are they being sold for over $100 - $1000. Beta version are for testing not to be used as a resale.
Beta still show that the operation system under testing but we computer users want a reliable LEAST instable operation system.
My question is ... is Beta version alway stable? The answer is NO!
Thank you for hearing me out!

on your menus there could be a application to create your very own set of restoration CDs, yet those will incredibly be 3 DVDs. as quickly as you're making those it incredibly is not substantial what you do. be beneficial to maintain each and every little thing you wnat is homestead windows earlier you install Ubuntu. it incredibly is straightforward to place in, there are 3 selections. ingredient via ingredient, which splits the no longer easycontinual in a million/2 and you save homestead windows in twin boot. Use the full no longer easycontinual, which removes homestead windows or custom the place you srink down the homestead windows partition and the press on the clean field and create the Linux partition. as quickly because it fairly is done Ubunt will deploy to the no longer easycontinual. do no longer panic if it delays booting because of the fact it fairly is checking the computers hardware and then putting Linux as much as apply the hardware. removing the two between the working structures later on isn't all that complicated. I incredibly have under no circumstances used Wubi, so i don't have an answer for that difficulty. you do no longer could worry the Penguin, it incredibly is no longer as undesirable human beings make it out to be, it has incredibly come a protracted procedures in it incredibly is adulthood and getting extra trouble-free for persons to apply. My grand young ones do no longer even understand they're on a Linux working equipment, all they understand is the icons are diverse.

You can. But to "downgrade" to from Vista to XP, you can not install over the top. You would have to wipe the hard drive and completely reinstall everything. So you would lose any data (unless you back up to CD or DVD first) and any other programs that are on the PC.

You need to reformat your hard disk to install XP on it. Fastest way to format is to remove the disk from your laptop and connect it to a USB to IDE connector used in external Hard disk enclosures.

Yes. But you don't need to buy XP (i think), and use vista license to downgrade to XP.
