Use chlorine dioxide to kill the mold first before doing any kind of other fixing. Mold in your home is a health hazard and it can spread.

I would find a spot that isn't very visible because you normally have furniture in front of it. I would use that spot for experiments. First, are you sure the mold is just on the surface, and the wood itself is solid? The first thing I would try would be using Clorox. The old fashioned liquid Clorox bleach. I would just rub a little on the experimental spot, then wait a few hours to see what happens.

Whatever solution works best for you, don't forget to do something to prevent the mold from happening again. It only happens when the wood is damp. Find out why it was damp, and how to prevent it from happening again.

Mix a cleaning solution with some bleach in it. The bleach will kill the obvious mold and mold spores on the surface, although it is probably under the paneling.

Is it a rental? If it is yours and you can do something to the walls. After scrubbing to kill the mold, you could primer the wood with kilz and paint it.

If you love the wood or if as a rental you cannot change the wall color. You could seal it with polyurethane after washing it to kill the mold spores It could be satin to add sheen to the walls and keep the wood look.

Check an see if Kilz (the name brand) makesa clear stain blocker. I do not know if they do or not

Good Luck.

personally i cant stand the smell of bleach. i had a mold problem in my basesment and i sprayed(mist) it down with 3% peroxide then followed with a misting of white vinegar (when the vinegar dries there is no smell) after it dried i wetted it down again with the peroxide and wiped it with paper towels. the mold has not returned. also, like in a previous answer you must find and fix the source of moisture tha caused the mold in the first place or it will come back. hope this helps
