i have an SRAM cassette, PG 950 i think or something like that. one of the cogs is wearing out and the chain is jumping on it now. i do plan on getting a new cassette (maybe a PG990) and a chain when i get paid, but i want to know if i can just get a single cog to replace this one with so i can use it on one of my junk bikes to huck around.

my cassette comes completely apart - every cog comes apart, so i know they can be replaced individually, the question is where do i get a single cog.

Sram is not new on the market only in or with some components and you can replace the cogs in your cassette.
People have been building there own cassettes for years and most guys that do build cassettes, build an all new cassette they don't mess with just one or two cogs.
You can also do rebuilds with Shimano and Campy, you don't have to get a whole new cassette.
That being said, the one thing I would warn you about if you choose to do a rebuild is to also replace your chain at the same time because if you have worn out some of your cogs, you have also done the same with the chain and if you insert a new cogs with out a new chain you could create the same problem. You shouldn't ever replace one without the other. also check your front chainrings for ware.

never seen a single cog for sale although im sure its not impossible, sounds hard to find though. id hit the LBS' on this one and talk to some mechanics. maybe someone has that cassette on their bike used that theyll sell ya to get that one cog.

Try JensonUsa ( www.jensonusa.com) or MTBR.com classified ads online (www.mtbr.com ) though you may find a real STEAL at EBAY ( www.ebay.com -click SPORTING GOODS then you will find Mountain Bikes and Parts---you're there!) They have "BUY IT NOW" tags for some cogs available so you can immediately pay the whole amount to the seller---& you can ask the seller for any specifications or ANY queries relating to its purchase------

I know that Shimano and Campy don't do this type of thing. Usually you have to get a whole new cassette. If this is a road gruppo, then I would think you have to get the whole thing seeing that the road group is new.

check with your local bike shop and see what they can get for you... SRAM is still relatively new on the market and you may have to buy a complete assembly...
