I just went to the dentist & they recommended that I use Crest ProHealth; it's alcohol free & does the same as Listerine.
Don't add water to it; the dentist said that causes the mouthwash not to work properly.

Listerine has come out with a mint flavor mouthwash. It's a vast improvement over the plain Listerine.

then get an alcohol free mouthwash, or water the mouthwash down a little bit. i always do about half water half mouthwash in the cap because 1) it doesnt make my eyes water and 2) there isnt really any evidence out there, but ive always wondered- alcoholics who drink high proof beverages have high rates of mouth and throat cancer... listerine is essentially a little under 50 proof alcohol, why wouldnt that increase your risk as well... (granted the type of alcohol is a little different. and like i said there is not scientific evidence that supports my that theory)

The 'stinging' is reflective of areas of your mouth that need attention [unhealthy gums usually] - just like Peroxide bubbles up when it hits infected areas, so does Listerine sting when it hits problem areas.

I use it every day - it keeps down mouth germs and infections and when gargled can ward away mild colds...
