I think it's making my kittys eyes water. sometimes after he uses his box his eyes will water. it isn't gooey or gross, just normal looking tears. I'm thinking it could be the litter i am using, which seems to work the best to cover up the smell cmpared to other litters i have used, so any suggestions on a different litter that will work just as well & not make my cats eyes water? and is this a possible reason his eyes water?

I tried fresh step once and MY eyes were watering! A cat with a halfway descent sense of smell of course would object (my cat kept sneezing when using it). Like the first poster, I used arm and hammer brand, and that worked pretty well at neutralizing the smell without being obnoxious. You just might have to try a few brands though to see what works best for everyone.

There could be too much perfume or it's too dusty and its making his eyes water. Try using a different brand for a while and see if there is a difference. You don't want your cat to stop using the pan b/c he can't stand the litter!

Well I tried Fresh Step and quit using it when I noticed it was turning my kitty's feet blue and green. I didn't know if that was harmful but I decided that I would change because of that. I went with Tidy Cat. It smells good, works great, and my cat's seem to love it. Also, I am allergic to litters with a lot of dust in them and Tidy Cat doesn't seem to bother me. Give it a try.

I use TidyCat Scoopable. Its really low on dust and perfumes.

I had a cat who ended up with and upper respiratory infection because of the litter dust. So I changed to TidyCat. I have used it for years now. The only thing bad about litter is it gets stuck between their toes. SO I bought a mat specifically to use in front of the litter box. When they jump out, it spreads their toes out and catches most of the litter.

It could be the dust from the litter, matbe even the perfume. I would experiment with different things. I've been using the crystals and they are great. No smell, no tracking and no dust

You might want to call the vet and discuss this. I use Fresh Step clay cat litter for my cat, and his eyes do not water.

We've changed back to "unscented" litter and then we use an additive that only releases when they step on it (looks like little white rocks) - it's not overpowering for our cats (we've got two) and their litter box doesn't smell at all!

That is a possibility.
He could be allergic to the perfume in the litter.
He could also be straining to poo and that could cause his eyes to water.
I have always used Fresh Step and have never noticed my cats having a reaction like yours.
Hope this helps.

Try using TidyCat. Also check the questions/comments spot on your litter bag, they may even give you a refund. Also these comments help the co. make a better product.
