She is 6 and already has a small learinging disability. She has a hard time focusing, but I fear that the coffee jest her focused for a bit, then once it wears off at school, her grades are dropping and so is she. I just think a doctor needs to give her someting and not coffee.

It's not a big deal hell you seem to be in a whose the better mother thing aren't you? coffee is okay you'd let the kid have a coke or a Pepsi so why not a coffee? as to a learning problem or whatever it is you're calling it although they have all kinds of fancy names and whatnot for it usually the problem is one of three things 1. the kid has a mild retard problem in which case coffee is not problem or it is 2. the kid may need her eyes checked and might need glasses again coffee is not a problem or 3. the kid is spoiled by both "mothers" and figures she can just sluff off and get away with it. i have known people who have given coffee to their kids b/c of athsma. mind you, it was mostly milk with a little coffee added and it wasn't on a regular basis. to think a child can concentrate better in school b/c/ they have coffee in the am is ridiculous. caffine isn't good for anyone let alone a 6 yr old. if this girl has a true learning disability then she should be tested through the school dist. so that she can get the help she deserves. if she doesn't get that help she will only struggle more in school. talk to your husband. caffine for a 6 yr old is not healthy and its stupid.

Caffeine is the only potential concern....and if she drinks the coffee with lots of cream...probably no problem...My grandson [8] loves coffee too and he is allowed a weak cup once a week or a latte from Starbucks

Caffeine is technically a drug. Caffeine consumption by children can stunt growth and cause other developmental problems. Not only should kids stay away from coffee, but other caffeinated beverages and foods as well.

My kids have drank coffee since they were little, mostly from their Uncles cup, he uses lots of cream and a little sugar. There's not been any ill effects from it at all.

how old is she?

it's not a good idea to get kids started on stuff like that early. most adults are addicted to coffee, why would you want to get a kid started on it?
