I have a B.A. in English/theatre and an Ph.D. in B.S. :-)
Seriously, with my B.A., I was told I could be a teacher, but instead went into journalism (then kept some freelance gigs and turned to technical documentation and continued to write plays, short stories and novels).
There are those who proclaim the benefits of specialization, but if you look a bit, you'll find opportunities with a B.A. in English. Good luck!

Why do people think that this major won't get anybody anywhere. There are so many jobs that demand good English skills and certainly people with this major have the skills. A major in English can get you any job that you want. Here is more information from a website:
"While English majors often think of teaching and writing related jobs, they may not realize how vital English is in careers such as law, psychological counseling, and the emerging fields in technology. The skills needed to become a successful lawyer--the ability to observe, analyze, define, summarize, focus, and persuade--are all analytical skills taught in English courses. Lawyers spend much of their professional time writing briefs. An English major would definitely enter this field with an advantage."

Well, hopefully you speak English!!
Get a teaching certificate and teach school. We need good teachers.
Do you already have the degree and just now are wondering what to do to pay off your student loans or are you embarking in the field and want to know you will have a job later?
Sure hope it is the latter.....

Write books. Help other R&S users with their spelling. Flip burgers on the side. And, of course, you will need a BA in spanish for the future. Good Luck.

Why not work towards being a teacher? Good teachers are desperately needed and I understand it can be a very rewarding career.
