most foreigners I know generally like American people, if not our gov't's policies or the idiots who run the gov't/big biz.

This of course would be people who never travel thinking that way. If you talk to any well travelled American - they know that Americans are not well liked in other countries. In fact, they pretend they aren't American so they don't have difficulities. I had one girl when I was in the south of France one year backpacking (was only 22 then) who was staying at the same hostel. As I was packing she saw that I had an extra Canadian patch in my bag. She started bursting into tears describing her bad experiences along the way when people treated her badly because she was American. I ended up feeling bad for her and gave her my patch so she could put it on her bag. She said she would always been sent back to the line, the end of the line in the train stations. I've seen it with my own eyes, it's not pretty.

I am not sure if I quite agree with you. The stereotype American or German or Brit people can not stand. And that stereotype person is so patriotic that they are moronic about it as well. They have fallen into the realm of believing the hype about their country and think that it can do not wrong and continue to chant (for example) U.S.A., U.S.A., U.S.A. when anything happens (including dropping bombs on foreign soil regardless of whom it kills) and can not understand when someone attacks their own soil (refer September 11). However, there are still lots of good people who are not ignorant who realize that there are numerous countries that give massive foreign aid and each country has its good points and bad. Unfortunately it is the outspoken people who are mental midgets who make the country look bad because they just want to belong to something so bad and beat their fist against their chest due to a misguided national pride. Unfortunately that mental midget also is against moving towards bringing this world together as one, they fear that and do not realize outside of their boarders that a whole world exists and in the event that thier country fell of of the face of the earth, that the world would survive and continue to prosper. My personal opinion is that most people in a country just want to get on with their lives and realize that people in other countries wish to do the same as well and that we are in fact a global community.

I don't believe that most Americans think other nationalities like us, quite the opposite - we know they don't like us. Those who believe otherwise are just living the ignorant life, just like those other nationalities that don't like us (but yet try to emulate us or get into our country by whatever means possible).

You're confusing the American people with the American politics, these are 2 different animals.
The vast majority of the world looks at what Americans have and dreams that they may obtain as much.
Our politics can be a royal pain in the asz.

In my limited travels I have seen that people from other nations are mixed. Some like us, some don't, others have no opinion.

Some americans are morons, some are not,

I'm an american and I know most of the world hates us, just so you know I didn't vote for Bush and I never approved of invading iraq.

As an American why should I care what people in other countries think about me?

For that matter, why should I care what other Americans think about me?

I have no contol over what other people think.

Maybe it's the way foreigners risk their lives just to emigrate here, or how other countries stand around, like beggars with their hands out, for our foreign aid.
