Like brilliant , not complaining but I was hoping for a bragging rite of being able to say "oh, ye know my lipid count is 5, or 4 " So disappionted.

What's normal anyway???

Ha ha there's the rub, no normal. Mine was 5.6 last time and the practice nurse told me that ideally mine should be about 4 because I have angina. So you have your answer what is your health and lifestyle like. Though I'm sure that if you had a health problems you would have been told what levels would be right for you.


Easy on the saturated fats and enjoy a life of exercise and fun. And Kudos to you for getting it checked out.

'normal' is usually between 5 and 6, but the nurses take different factors into account like age, weight, etc. Anything over 8 is usually referred to the doctor, since medication could be required.

I believe the 'norm' is 5. Also read somewhere that there are suggestions/proposals to reduce this to 3. Your reading is OK, but discuss with your doc to get more details.

My cholesterol level is normal which is 4.5 as I was told by my doctor. Hope this helps.
