ART:
I am an economist; and will point the humor in this situation from an economical stance.
Supply and Demand. There has only been one Jesus Christ. His supply is finite; which values his as "Priceless".
There has only been one Michale Angelo; however, he produced many works of art (painting, ceilings, and statues). How is art valued? It is valued by the supply and demand for it. So, if the Pope were to "Infallibly" rule that all buildings were to be given to the poor, well this would cause an INSTANT devaluation on all the net worth in the Vatican; or it'd be worthless.
Ironically, the biggest "Demand" comes from non-Catholics, and non-Christains; which is why they're valued so high. Which again, if the Pope said "Away with all this" then they wouldn't want it. You don't see the "Cardinal of Bishops" bickering over who gets the "David" in their parish this year (giggle).
Helping the Poor:
"The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread." (Blessed Mother Teresa)
Catholics Relief Services (CRS) is one of the biggest charities in the world. Additionally, the Jesuit socity is a great educator to the poor. As the Blessed Mother Teresa points out time and time again, the biggest poverty we have is the lack of love and appreciation. Art is valuable for appreciation, and does help cure the lonly.

Churches -they have the same problem the world has - they are full of people with personal blindness to the needs of those around them.
It's not just a church problem.
I wish someone could explain why the richest countries in the world, one of which prides itself on separation of church and state, allows their citizens to starve and die in their cities? Is that acceptable to the foundational beliefs of these countries?

I am not Catholic,I am aware of the wealth of Vatican City. I must
defend them, when I had three little cold hungry children because daddy ran away ,the Church sent us food and the Catholic Charities bought me beds, and a stove ,and turned on heat
for us.

When to was the Last time someone who is Religious Done the Right Thing!!!
Look at What my People Do the Native Americans
Each morning upon rising, and each evening before sleeping, gives thanks for the life within you and for all life, for the good things the Creator has given you and for the opportunity to grow a little more each day. Consider your thoughts and actions of the past day and seek for the courage and strength to be a better person. Seek for the things that will benefit others (everyone).
2. Respect. Respect means "To feel or show honor or esteem for someone or something; to consider the well being of, or to treat someone or something with deference or courtesy". Showing respect is a basic law of life.
3. Once a council has decided something in unity, respect demands that no one speak secretly against what has been decided. If the council has made an error, that error will become apparent to everyone in its own time.
4. Be truthful at all times, and under all conditions.
5. Always treat your guests with honor and consideration. Give of your best food, your best blankets, the best part of your house, and your best service to your guests.
6. The hurt of one is the hurt of all; the honor of one is the honor of all.
7. Receive strangers and outsiders with a loving heart and as members of the human family.
8. All the races and tribes in the world are like the different colored flowers of one meadow. All are beautiful. As children of the Creator they must all be respected.
9. To serve others, to be of some use to family, community, nation, and the world is one of the main purposes for which human beings have been created. Do not fill yourself with your own affairs and forget you’re most important talks. True happiness comes only to those who dedicate their lives to the service of others.
10. Observe moderation and balance in all things.
11. Know those things that lead to your well-being and those things that lead to your destruction.
12. Listen to and follow the guidance given to your heart. Expect guidance to come in many forms; in prayer, in dreams, in times of quiet solitude, and in the words and deeds of wise Elders and friends.
Which do you think is Better
Wahoo

I wouldn't say that religion has failed, but otherwise you are so damn right...
A benevolent explanation to this might be the fact that the believers themselves would have simply less respect for a poor church than for a reach church. But there is also the obvious fact that people are greedy, no matter what clothes they wear and what beliefs they claim to embrace or even do embrace.

religion has not failed...this is evidenced by the fact that over 6 billion people on this planet are under the influence of some faith or another. what religion has failed in is its attempt to control the masses with the notion of a supernatural being controlling our lives and thoughts...any person willing to look at the evidence as you have, will be drawn to the correct conclusion that religion is no longer needed and that we as a species need to take responsibility for our own progress and the full rights of all people to live with liberty and freedom...it is up to us...not some false notion of god.

Religion(christianty especially), in my opinion, seems too much like a way to get money and power. Look at christianity in the Middle Ages of Britain. "If you don't go to church you'll be locked in a pit of eternal fire and if you do go to church and do what it says you will be blessed. The afterlife is all that matters."
This is just an opinion and I have nothing against religious people.

Christianity and Islam will succumb to the SAME fate as the other mythologies -- Now ancient, and obsolete.
Within the next 5 millennia, as the earth continues to spin, new and possibly MORE delusional mythologies will most likely form. When their long-awaited, fictitious god "fails" to show up, they will create new gods, and new wars. History DOES repeat itself.
