it could be a midlife crisis or you could have just finally after all these years seen the light! my mom and dad both got their first tattoos in their fourties. maybe it was midlife crisis time but maybe they just wanted a new adventure in life! go for it!
just be sure you do research on the artist. not all artists have the same level of talent and you definitely get what you pay for.

Wanting a tattoo is not the sign of anything special in most cases. Some people aren't ready or prepared to get one at 18 or just don't feel its something they want. I know many people who got their first tat at 30-40 years old.
Mid life crisis is usually a noted effort to act young and be young. I don't see a tattoo as doing that since people of all ages get them. You'll only have a problem if you get a red convertible and a trophy wife 1/2 your age, by the way she'd have to be big boobed and blond :-P
If you want the ink, get it! Better to do the what if's then spend your life wondering about them.

I don't think it's a mid-life crisis. I'm 42 and just got my first tattoo about 3 weeks ago. I did it for a few reasons. 1. I had always wanted one but just didn't know of what. 2. My Daughter came up with the design that I really liked. 3. I was ready for a change in my life. This was the perfect way to have the happen. I now have an awesome tattoo that I just love. I'm ready for another one.....now I just have to come up with the idea. Good luck and enjoy!!!!!

Doubtful. In the end you're the only one that can answer this question, but that you're asking the question is indicative that any kind of crisis isn't the case. The insane don't ask if they're insane, I'm told.
Besides, if you are having a midlife crisis for wanting/getting a tattoo at this age, then so are several posters - including myself. Well, maybe not me. I'm a late bloomer on everything, so I probably won't get my crisis until I turn 50. :)

Absolutley not! I was 30 when I got my first tatt, but beware...they are addictive (I now have 8, ten years later).
Just make sure you really want it, as they are forever. Make sure you don't want it to either please (or rebel against someone), or because they are trendy right now, or for any other reason than YOU want it for YOU.
If there have been recent upheavals in your life that you think may be contributing to you suddenly wanting to take a step like this, then I would wait a little while and think about it before running out and getting it. Try putting the design up somewhere you will see it every day and thinking about it being on your body for the rest of your life. Or better yet, if you have the computer know-how, try adding the design to a photo of yourself to see how it looks.
Also, research the artist before you let them work on you! You can always bring the design to a different artist, just make sure they know what they're doing!
Good luck!

Yes, but 38 isn't really middle-age any more. 40 is the new 30, apparently. Embrace the crisis. Now buy a sports car and grow a ponytail. Dude.

I wouldn't say so, one thing about tattoos is they are getting so common that it isn't a taboo to have one I have four and most people never know it they just think I am a innicent mom of three
