I am from Fife, Scotland. Used to rubbish, cold, wet and windy weather, which I hate. Ok, I burn easily, but I am sure I could climatise to the sunshine in Australia!

G'day,

If your concern is only weather, then it's gonna be Sydney, Brisbane Darwin and Perth. However, really... compared to where you come from, even Melbourne is still considered better.

This is what you'll get from Melbourne:
1. First of all... some people do not like the weather in Melbourne (you can have 4 seasons in one day). However, if you read the first article from The Age newspaper, you will find out that the weather is still more preferable than the other cities. Sure you can have 42C day like last month, but almost immediately you'll get a much cooler weather pretty soon afterwards. It is very rarely that you got 2 or 3 consecutive days of hot weathers (unlike Sydney, Brisbane or Perth).
2. Melbourne is a city of diversity. If you are a newcomer, and you do not look 'Anglo-Saxon', you do not feel like an 'alien', since you can find almost every race in the world walking in the city. They are both immigrants and overseas students.
3. THE FOOD!! Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Thai, All-you-can-eat, African, Lebanese, Mexican, Sea Food... anything else? All available and lots of them in a very-very-very affordable price
4. Pretty good public transport system. With one ticket, you can switch from train, tram and bus. They do not always come on-time, but still reliable and improving (www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au).
5. SHOPPING!!! Original branded clothing sold very cheap. There are even shopping tour, where the participants are taken to retails outlets just for shopping. Big temptations for ladies.
6. Crime rates... just read the second article on the bottom.
7. Cost of Living... I'll say it's second most expensive city after Sydney. Altho I have to say that some cities in Queensland can be more expensive to live.
8. Tourist attraction. This is the area that I think Sydney is better than Melbourne, since it has most of it's attraction within its suburbs. Most Melbourne attraction are pretty much out of Melbourne, such as the gold mines in the cities of Bendigo and Ballarat, The Great Ocean Road, Lakes Entrance, Grampians, skiing in Mt. Buller etc.

Hope this helps. Have a good trip and welcome to Australia :)

Darwin Weather Year Round

Depends on what you are used to. Coast south of Sydney looks good for a good climate, but places like Toowoomba in Queensland are elevated and cooler than say Brisbane. I've seen 40C in the Sydney CBD on a few days and I have not spent much more than a few weeks in Sydney. You get used to most weather, the really hot days and the really "cold" days in Australia can be counted on the fingers of one hand -at least in most places.

Don't come to Queensland in Summer December - February it is sooooo hot. Winter is great though not very cold at all we might get one week of real cold (what we call cold anyway)

Sydney has good weather most of the year.

Melbourne gets very cold, and some days you don't know what you'll get hot one minute cold the next, then raining.

South East Queensland would have the best weather year round for most people.
Personally I love Darwin weather - but it is too hot to a lot of people.

Perth..........

Although we do get a few days above 40c each summer, it's a dry heat so you don't sweat like Michael Jackson in a nursery!!

Nowhere near as bad as say, a 30c day in Brisbane with 90% humidity.

I have a mate from Fife that's living in Brisbane & he loves the weather, took them a while to get acclimatised though....

Well Katy, a lot depends on what you like, if you like hot weather, go to the Gold Coast, if you prefer teppid weather, try Tasmania.
But here in Victoria, we get 4 seasons in one day.
So, Katy, I need your tastes in climate control to assess your needs.
PS. Where are you from?

Probably Gold Coast...or Perth (but it does get quiet warm)
Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide and Sydney rain a bit.
