Respectfully & trying to be logical here:
1. It is better than saying, "I think..."
2. You ASSUME that the Bible is "mythological". However, you cannot PROVE that it is. Rather, this is your opinion. IOW-How do you KNOW that the Bible is a "myth" and not "God's word"?
3. I believe that the Bible IS inspired by God, word for word. Therefore, I trust his wisdom on things much more than my own....well sometimes. I am not perfect that's for sure!
4. There are many issues that the Bible doesn't directly address like: What toothpaste should I buy? Should I buy a hybrid car & shovel out extra cash? Should I watch American Idol or read the Bible tonight? On these GRAY issues, there are principles.
5. Actually, I have done the whole do whatever I want/ I am god thing. It doesn't work & I wasn't happy. Following God & enjoying Him is the happiest I have been because I have purpose & get to make a difference for eternity (according to the Bible).
If you want to have a dialog on this, email me.
Edit 1:
Hey today I decided not to have coffee...maybe I will have coffee. Do I want coffee? Yes. Is coffee wrong? No. Jeff/Recon-go have some coffee.

I would have to say you are right,it does seem that many Christians and other religious people are incapable of thinking for themselves. That fact is not proven in following the laws set forth by the bible per se but by how some would obey teachings that seem contrary to their very nature. How is it for example that an otherwise kind person can have such loathing in their heart for someone who has done them no harm, like the whole homosexuality issue. They simply loathe these people not because of any harm they have done to anybody but because their Holy book says so. Thankfully most Christians so loosely follow the teachings of the Bible it's not a problem, Muslims are another issue entirely, they claim this great religion of peace but just look at all the places in the world where Islam rules and it's easy to see what it is in it's purest form.It is all encompassing and removes the very right of the individual to think for themselves, under penalty of death.

If you want to operate this brand new machine which you dont know how to operate then the first thing you do is to read its INSTRUCTION MANUAL.
If the machine is complex and requires some training, perhaps the company's representative will explain its function and give you a demo, handbook, manuals and then demonstrate it.
Thats how we do for our daily lives.
Now the human body... Dont you think it requires INSTRUCTION MANUAL and an ENGINEER to demonstrate how to use it???
IT IS THE MOST COMPLEX OF ALL MACHINES.
How??
1) There has NEVER been a Heat Engine to churn out energy from Carbohydrates, fats and proteins at such a low temperature of 37 degrees with an incredible efficiency of 100%!!!
(The maximum efficiency you get from your petrol engine is 40-70% at a temperature of 1000s of degrees)
2) It is the MOST compact of all machines which incredible data transmission and organization. (The neurons travel impulses at the speed of light or more) (Your desktop PC will be limited at 4 GHz)
Then to explain more about it will require a book for that..
Know more:

Inshort, this body requires the INSTRUCTION MANUAL and an ENGINEER to explain its usage....
The INSTRUCTION MANUAL - QURAN (The Last & Final Manual)
The ENGINEER - PROPHET MUHAMMED (The Last & Final Engineer)
You will find instructions like,
Dont smoke. Dont cheat. Be good. Dont take drugs, alcohol. Guard your modesty, chastity. etc which are for our own good.

The Quran tells its readers to seek knowledge, research science, and challenges believers with its intellectual approach and affirmation of known and to be known modern science. The Quran is making me an intellectual, and those who heed to it become that. The fields of sciences and arts increase my faith in God. But I agree with you that some religious people do not use their intellect, but its not the religion, just stupidity like some people who don't believe in a higher power also show.

God's truth is always available to consult with. If you do not seek the truth of life for your existing state of being..............then YOU are already a dead man, and YOU don't even realize it!!!

Why is it that when at work you tend to take decisions within the laws put by your boss or company yet find it so hard to understand that we do take every decision but within the limits put by God. Everyone has the free will and in the end it is for God to judge us. You follow your boss and find it difficult for us to follow the Creator of your boss and the whole universe???

I wonder that myself... It's always "Jesus says", "you can read in the bible"...
Ok, religion can be a good thing for a person, but we also have to use common sense, think for ourselves.

I am a Muslim and I do my own thinking. However, I turn to Allah and the Quran for guidance when I need it. It's my life, but I acknowledge that it came from Allah and I try my best to be good to please Him.
