I just got out of the Navy, let me shed some light for you.
First of all, BM's aren't dumb. They drive the frigging ships. Yes, they are responsible for painting most of the ship, and deal with a lot of shipboard watches, but that doesn't make them dumb. I think that there are a lot of people who aren't as intelligent who end up as BM's because there is always a need for a deck hand to do the physical labor.
Here are the jobs that you can probably do without a high ASVAB score:
BM (deck hand)
CS (Cook)
SK (supply / storeroom clerk)
There are also a lot of construction rates with the Seabees, so if you are good with, say, plumbing, then you should look at UT, if you are good with electricity, look at CE, if you are good with building stuff, then look at BU.
Good luck, and stop being so hard on yourself. You're almost 30, time to get some confidence.

I've been in both the Navy and the Marine Corps. In different aspects each is harder that the other. In general the Navy is more mentally challeging, while the Marine Corps in more physically challenging. My best advise to you is to contact any military recruiter and take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test. This is a test used by all the services to determine which military occupations an individual would or would not be suited for. Everyone must take this test before enlisting. If you have a High School diploma or equivalent, and score high enough on the ASVAB then you have the capacity to make it in the military. It sounds to me like your main challenges will be mental blocks. The military will push you to achieve things you never thought you could do. This builds self-esteem. As long as you graduate, you will not come out of boot camp feeling like a loser. Two secrets to getting through. NEVER take anything your drill instructor does or says personally, even if he directs it at you personally; secondly, don't worry how many time you mess up, instead just be determined not to be the next guy to mess up, you'll have more success than failure that way. Good luck!

deck ape among other things!
I don't think you are a loser, and I am sure you aren't stupid. You may have just had some bad luck or made some bad choices! You need to pick some things that you can excel at so you can build up your sense of worth and self-esteem! You aren't the only one that feels like you do, and you have the power to change it!
You need to quit setting yourself up for failure! That is nothing more than a self fulfilling prophecy!
You certainly don't write like a person who is not smart! You can express yourself well, better than most I would suspect!

what jobs you qualify for is based on your line scores of the ASVAB. if you have taken the ASVAB, you recruiter can show you wich ratings your scores make you eligible for.
If you are a HS graduate, you only need a 38 on the ASVAB to enlist, although your job choices will be very limited. without a HS diploma, you need to score a 50.. and your chances of getting in are even slimmer. the Navy doesn't accept many GED holders at all.

I don't think you are really stupid...there must be something else going on that gives you trouble learning or remembering. There are lots of things that could contribute to it, like learning disabilities or mental illness. You seem to do alright on the computer. If you do something about your self esteem you might be happier and not refer to yourself as a loser. A loser isn't someone who can't remember stuff, a loser is someone who gives up. Good luck in your search.

If you read the history of many famous people you see similiar backgrounds.
Go down to the COAST GUARD (not Navy) recruiter and sign up. Do what they tell you and the Coast Guard will work with you to keep you going.

since you didn't say what your rate was, it would be difficult to steer you into an area where you might actually prosper...but I would say look into pipefitting or heating A/C work. I was an AT and landed a job with a major corporation due to my Navy training...use your training to look into job possibilities
