All the time, especially when I venture here and read what's written by uber-religious posters. It's very depressing.

My answer tends to be circular. The more I observe the differences in people the more I can appreciate the variations being a composite of a whole. Over time I've grown to feel more of a stranger because my studies have led me into new beliefs and theories that are very far from those of anyone I know. Even though many people have deeper thoughts and questions, most conversations on a daily basis are so trite, like what time the paper arrived on Saturday morning. My thoughts are detached from most details of that nature while the thoughts of most in my environment are detached from any wishes to discuss or contemplate the cosmos and the psychology of humanity as a whole. So, like a stranger, I speak little and listen much. But like each cell in our body is slightly different yet join together to create a functioning body of discovery, so too is mankind a group of cells, individualized, variable yet creating the body called humanity. Therefore the variations leave one feeling less a stranger and knowing a sense of oneness.

No. I'm not a stranger to myself, you see.
And, Yes. it is pretty shocking when you first realize that other people are not as you are, particularly on the inside (thoughts, feelings, values, etc.)
It actually is pretty accurate to think of ourselves that way - to think of each person as coming from a foreign land, not assuming we understand what they mean by what they say or do, not assuming that we have much in common, knowing that we'l have to learn a whole new set of customs and meanings and so on for each person. It's basically the truth of human experience - we are all strangers to each other..
But that requires a level of presence to what is so that is in direct conflict to our hard-wired tendency to categorize things in order to predict the future.

When I was a child, I used to daydream about what it would be like to have my alien family remember where I was and come rescue me from this planet. Of course, it was just a daydream; there was no rescue. But, I have always been the outsider and will probably remain so.
