Stay away from cards for now. The easiest way to do this:

Get a loan from a local Credit Union for $2000 or $3000 dollars, they should approve you for that, get a co-signer if you have to. DON'T SPEND THE MONEY!!! Over the next few months, pay of the loan in full with the money that you got. This will show up as a paid loan on your credit, a very good thing. Repeat the practice two or three times and you should have no problem getting approved for anything else.

This works but you have to have enough self restraint not to spend the money.

I had the same problem when I turned 18.

If you apply for a card anywhere now, you will probably not be approved for it. And when you are declined for a card, that goes on your credit history and makes it look bad.

I had applied for like 6 different cards and got declined on all of them. Then I learned that the declines will stay on your credit history for 6 months. So I stopped applying for cards at all for 6 months. Then I went to the bank with my dad and he signed for me to get a credit card with a low credit limit.

I bought small stuff and paid the full balance off every month and now I have great credit! Hope this helps!

Credit history is just that - years of regular use, never being behind with payment or repayment, good employment history, no criminal and fraudulent record.

Best place to get started is get a credit from the bank you have been using for x amount of years perhaps the one your salary gets paid into or the bank or savings you regularly pay into. Then just be responsible when you use it and make repayments.

Of course school children need not apply but college students may get one approved.

Store credit Cards, cell phone bills, some utilites like cable, having a co-signer on a loan, or using a secured card that you put money down on.

Get a store credit card like JCPenney. Buy a shirt and pay it off each month. Your credit will zoom to the good.

Best of Luck to You

start with a gas card and build it that way. Then you should read and learn how to repair your credit. This will help you learn what not to do!
