THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

2007-03-01 01:12:07 · answer #1 · answered by THE WAR WRENCH 4 · 0 1

Don't lie to yourself.

Don't give yourself justifications/excuses for doing what you know to be harmful. When you choose to do something you know to be harmful, be an adult about it, 'fess up to yourself, and deal with the consequences.

"Where attention goes, power flows" - concentrate on the good, and the bad will become background noise. Notice the loving things that others do for you. Notice the beauty of the world.

Be owned by an animal - you're not really human until that happens.

Cultivate a sense of perspective - it's almost indistinguishable from a sense of humor.

But mostly, don't lie to yourself. Ever. Not about your motivations, not about your actions, not about your feelings - ignoble as they may be. And if you don't like things as they are, choose differently.

When you do lie to yourself, correct it as soon as you notice it.

Really, that is the important one. Don't lie to yourself. And when you do, don't lie to yourself about doing it.

Matthew 22:35-40 is still as true today as when Jesus spoke these words:

35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Appreciate what you have because at any moment it could be taken away.

Family is first.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Seize the day.

Everyday is another opportunity to change your life.

Don't let the deeds of small minded humans grind you under.

When they do get to you, go hang out with the dogs.
