Yes, too far.
1. We're "amusing ourselves to death."
2. We're obsessed with "more functions" but never ask whether we need them or if they're any good. (Like cameras and mp3 players on phones, or bluetooth earpieces).
3. We never ask whether there are any drawbacks to having all these tech devices. What are the negative effects on our lives, as individuals and as a society?
Is that what you're talking about? Or are you talking about: spying devices? War machines?
Either way, we crossed the line between need and want, between beneficial and corrupting, a long time ago. And we'll never go back, because we (as a society) don't want to. We want more! more! I want the music chip put in my brain! And a phone, too!

it rather is greater of an economics questions than an option technology question. It comes right down to furnish and demand. valuable there are all styles of technologies accessible it rather is a point greater than the patron industry; a number of it rather is even government limited. even nevertheless, maximum persons of it fairly isn't any longer. the reason we don't see it rather is basically the fee to offer a good distance exceeds the call for to get carry of. Having a NASA ultrasonic washer could be marvelous. even nevertheless, advertisement washing machines are quite a few magnitudes greater low fee. a marvelous occasion is the DVD. laptop DVD recorders have been around as long because of the fact the DVD existed. even nevertheless, they did no longer enter the prevalent advertisement industry till the technologies progressed adequate that mass generating them grew to become further and extra conceivable. What replaced into over $3000 money initially can now be won as we talk for $30 with greater advantageous specs. the generating piece needs to advance in time with the technologies.

Maybe, but people have been saying that for at least 100 years. To us, that statement made 100 years ago would be absurd since 1907 technology was so primitive compared to now. In 2107, people will look back on 2007 as the quaint good old days.

The problem is not how far it goes. Problem is that technology is applied in relatively uncontrolled way and people care more for "how much will it earn" than "how will it influence the environment". We can only hope that new and more environment-friendly technologies save our civilization... Although I don't know if I should believe this.
