Montessori schools focus on individual intense learning, rather than a group learning setting. My son went to a Montessori school when he was younger, he's in 1st grade now, and he's reading at a 6th grade level, doing 6th grade math, and I believe that it is because of the learning process at the Montessori school. Ours was also Christian based. They often offer before and after school programs. I'm all for the Montessori schools, and suggest them to anyone who asks my opinion of different schools.

I'm not sure about all the technical stuff. My sister is 5, my parents knew she would miss the cut off for kindergarten so about 3 1/2 years ago they took her out of private daycare and put her in a Montessori School. My parents do pay tuition but it is well worth it. They taught her Reading, spelling, math and even social studies. ( I work with kids 5-12 and she can read better than most of my 2nd graders). She has homework almost every night, that she can do on her own. My only concern is that next year in kindergarten she is going to be bored.

My girlfriends son is in a Montessori program. The program works out really good for 2 kinds of students, either those that are totally ahead and can work by themselves, or those that struggle and need to work at a slower pace. My girlfriends son struggles with school. He is able to learn things in a little bit different way, and at his own pace. Learning for him is more "hands-on".
