You can treat a head cold with OTC meds, but, you said the 14 month old has an infection? If so, you need to get the child to the doctor.

I'm a nurse. Get any OTC cold medicine(ask the pharmacist about the dosage if unsure. Push the fluids and also is the baby is congested, use nasal rinses OTC. You will need to use the blue bulb to suck out the excess mucous when doing this. Instructions are given on box. Ask the pharmacist with any questions. Make sure a fever is staying down, if not see a doctor. Take care and if the baby gets worse go in. You wouldn't want your precious little one to suffer. Take care and all the best.

With a child that young they can get very sick very fast. What you think may be a head cold could be an ear infection which is very common in children. Because of the young age of your child I suggest a doctors visit. You may have to pay now but it could save you a large hospital bill in the future.
