.....wear a "head shop" sweat shirt to school? Our daughter is a model kid. She doesn't swear, drink, do drugs, 4.0+ GPA, plays sports, youth group at church, etc. Situation is her uncle's are good friends with the owner of a "head shop" (sells drug paraphernalia) that also sells other things like Rainbow Sandals and skateboards. Myself, I like the owner of the store as well. The store is known around the area as being a "head shop." Would you let her wear the shirt?

clarification: the name of the head shop is Budda's Belly. So the name, by itself, does not promote drug use.....it's the "locally know connotation."

Nope, sorry, doesnt portray a very good image on your daughter, no matter how good she actually is.

You don't say if she really wants the shirt? From what you have said she sounds like a great kid, she's doing well and she isn't doing drugs. So,what you fear here is peoples' assumptions upon seeing her in a 'head shop' sweat shirt? Why should she bow to unfounded small minded assumptions, and, as she sounds like a good kid,you have probably spent years teaching her not to judge too readily, not to take anything for face value and to give everyone a chance.I would let her wear the shirt,it's not a bag of cannabis,it's just a shirt! And have more faith in the girl that YOU know and don't worry so much about twitching curtains or what people who don't know her may think!

it is a shirt right? it doesnt say on it do bong hits right? so what is the problem? she probably wants to wear it to fit in. Anyway let me see if i get this straight girls are walking around in the skimpiest outfits i wouldn't even wear( even if i had the body for it) they have sayings across their chest, across there bottoms and we are worried about her promoting a head shop? they do sell other things besides drug related things. I do not know i guess i view this differently i would rather have my child wear a sweatshirt with Jerry Garcia smoking a joint then some half tee with talk to my face written across her boobs. Maybe im wrong but that is the beauty of parenting no one can tell me how to do my job!

why not, if she doesnt do drugs then who cares the worse that can happen is the school is going to tell her to take it off so make sure she wears a shirt underneath it, they do sell other stuff there besides drug parefanailia and if ppl are going to say she does drugs because of a sweat shirt then they are dumb sorry , and if they say that then maybe she wont wear it anymore, in my opinion you shouldnt tell a teen ager what to wear and what not to wear unless its nothing like it shows her boobs nand stomach and butt and every thing like that, so let her be and let her wear the sweat shirt shes not doing anything wrong by it now is she you know that and she knows that and thats all thats needed right

I would, if she wanted to. I'd rather her wear a sweatshirt than a lowcut shirt with her boobs hanging out, nipples all looking at me. And don't get me started on the low cut jeans where I can see cheekage and a thong.
Free speech...I'd rather have a smart, confident kid wearing a tshirt for a store that sells cool things (He DOESN'T sell drugs and stuff for doing drugs, people!) than someone who is selling themselves and their body for popularity.

No let her wear the rainbow sandals. No matter how good your daughter is and if the name is local everyone will give her a hard time about it and may spread rumors ruinging the rest of the school years.

I wouldn't allow it. She's advertising for this head shop and although she's a good kid, she doesn't need this type of attention.
When my son (who is a surfer) wore a t-shirt with "sex wax" on it, he was sent home and told to change it. I called the teacher and she said "I'm not naive, I know what sex wax is". I wonder what she THOUGHT it was. It IS a product used for waxing a surf board but I didn't allow him to wear it to school. Just a small concession and it helped avoid any further problems.

The school would probably not allow it. Also, she must consider the adults and kids she comes in contact with that don't know her personally might automatically form a opinion that she is into drugs. I don't know if that is an image she will want for herself. She must also make that decision when deciding what to wear.

no, because if it is known as a drug shop, if she just wears the shirt it will be assumed she does drugs as well. You know the power of assumption off of what people look like, it is terrible, but such a huge part of our society. I would make sure she understood she wasn't being punished. Just make her understand the way society sees things, that they judge off of what a person wears, says or looks like. Good luck.

Ever hear of guilt by association? No I wouldn't let her wear the shirt because it gives the wrong message about her. Maybe her friends know she doesn't do drugs, but other parents may not and the may assume the worst. Better safe then sorry.

Being the angel you describe her to be she may be a role model for other kids at school so it is not only the question of whether it will affect your daughter in any way rather it is what effect it might have on other kids. Buy her a nicer shirt with something "cool" on it.
