You don't say whereabouts in the country you are, but wherever you buy from, make sure the parents have been hip & elbow tested for dysplasia before buying. Also make sure they have excellent temperaments - as these dogs do:

The Kennel Club has an online facility so you can search for breeders with puppies available. In addition, you can see first on the list the Accredited Breeders which adhere to good breeding practices laid down the the Kennel Club. Recently introduced is an Accolade Scheme which identifies a breeder's experience, if they are a breed club member and if they have bred a dog with a Kennel Club Stud Book number.

You can also search by region and Breed Clubs are also listed.

Our advice is definitely to ring round and ask lots of questions about type, health checks and experience of the breeder.

try adopting instead. so many dogs are being put down because there are not anough people to take them in. you can even find some purebreds (if you need one). And some specialized rescue places for only one type of breed. You'll save money and save a dog.

Try this site

http://www.epupz.co.uk/

They list private sellers as well as breeders of many types in all areas of the country.

I got my Welsh Collie (extremely rare breed!) from this site.
