I have been having strep throat like symtoms for four days now and it is making me restless at night. I have some cephelexin from last year dated 1-6-06 for the same thing. Would it still be effective and do it's job?

When you are given a prescription of antibiotics, one of the things your health care provider instructed you to do was take all the medication that was given you, even if you felt the symptoms had gone away. We're told that because although we may 'feel' better, the medication needs to kill all the organism in your body. Just because you don't have enough of the organism to make you feel bad, doesn't mean it's completely gone. When you stop taking an antibiotic, the remaining organism builds an immunity to the medication, making it harder to get rid of the next time it flares up. That's what you did last year, and are going to do by taking those last few pills now. Suppress the symptoms, but set yourself up for more intense future outbreaks. Throw the old pill away. You wouldn't be asking the question if you were talking about milk, or eggs. Then go to your doctor, get a new prescription, and take it exactly as your doctor instructs you to... until you don't have anymore pills. You might find you stop getting yearly strep infections.

yeah antibiotics don't go bad they just become less potent , go ahead and use it just cut the time if its 12 hourly take them 8 hourly and if its 8 take 6hourly and by the way take vitamin with B complex in it it will keep the flora in your stomach from being disturbed. Get well soon!
