for the last year or two (im not sure how long its been really) i've been having the same kind of dream. it's always a spider (although last nights was multiple little ones for the first time ever) usually at least as big as my palm. it's either on my wall, or curtains, or drops down from the ceiling. i've had this same type of dream over 20 times.. maybe a lot more. i scream, and usually jump myself out of bed, before i fully awaken myself. my parents said i've been doing this for year, they sleep through it now.
it doesnt seem like just a nightmare, but night terrors is rare in adults, and you arent supposed to remember the event, or be reached during an episode, but i remember enough to know what triggered it, and i always vaguely remember my folks coming into my room if they do. these episodes leave me terrorfied, and shaking. they are always within the first half hour of me falling asleep.

i am usually consciously aware of the episode itself, and i think the spider is still there until i regain full control of my body, and turn on lights and check for it. they're getting so commonplace now, i sometimes dont even check.

night terrors continue after you wake up, in that you would have jumped up before you woke up, but would still be able to see the spider... i have had night terrors from being tiny, and still have them sometimes, i always remember vaguely what it was and am aware of my parents/ bf (depending on where i am), it sounds like i could be, but i could also be anxiety and stress causing you to have these episodes

That just seems like a really long time to be having the same dream. If it is really disturbing to you, tell a doctor about it.

I have been diagnosed with two forms of depression; Major Depression and Dysthymic Disorder, sometimes I have very vivid and disturbing dreams, but it never got bad enough for me to feel it was a major problem in itself.

The classifications of what kind of disorder it is, well, those are for the doctors and the insurance companies. They might call it "NIght Terrors", they might call it "Dysomnia Due to Another Axis I or Axis II DIsorder", or "Dysomnia Not Otherwise Specified" or they might just call it some kind of depression or anxiety or whatever and not even mention the dreams in the diagnosis. You might be prescribed the same medication anyway. The important thiing for you is that you get well.

Talk to a doctor maybe he can get you into talk to someone because these are not normal and they say are triggered from something that has happened in your life that you are unaware of. You need to find out what this is to get rid of the night terrors. Hope all goes well for you

It sounds like you need to either go to a psychiatrist or a doctor of some kind. It sounds serious if it's been going on that long. I hope you get better, good luck and God bless.
