After my parents divorced, my mom started attending pentacostal churches and dragging my sister and me with her. That was my exposure to witnessing people speaking in toungues. I DO NOT believe it at all.!!! One person would start speaking in toungues (i.e. rambling in a pattern of wierd syllables over and over again... not in the pattern of any language). As a linguist I can vouch for that. Then someone else would give a supposed interpretation, that usually turned out to be a vague message and nothing shocking as far as news is concerned. " God says that in these trying times, he's always with us." or " There's corruption in the world and we're nearing the end but the Lord is eternal." Nothing that they don't already know or believe and never anything that reveals any great mystery.!!!
When I was about 12, a man from the church sat me down and started to teach me how to speak in tounges, which turned out was not something you can not just learn according to most members. He said "This is all you have to do, Ah nanananananana Ah shashashashasha, now follow my lead.!!!" When I asked him what it meant he said " You won't understand it because it's the language of the angels. they're just speaking through you".
Speaking in toungues is just a fony, occultic ritual that is spurred on by zealous emotions. It serves absolutely NO purpose except for making those participating feel like they're have a religious experience.

During Worship Services
The only other biblical example that the Bible gives of tongue-speaking was during the gathering of believers. However, on these occasions the believers assembled for the purpose of instruction, not for speaking in tongues. The Apostle Paul made this clear:
Yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue (1 Corinthians 14:19).
Thus, the Bible records tongue-speaking on only two different situations, the coming of the Holy Spirit and the worship service. There is no example of believers gathering for the sole purpose of speaking in tongues.
Check out the website below and it has tons of answers about speaking tongues.

Hey Bill,
this is the real deal with the tongues thing:
if somebody is actually speaking in a Biblical tongue as on penticost day, it will be understood by every language in the world at once, even down to the exact dialect from where each person's community is.
If it is gibberish, if it is not understood, then its either someone being a fake, or its satanic.
If ya ever hear the wacko's sounding like they are saying the two letters B L BL over and over again, its demonic (baal).
There is no middle ground here. you see, a speech understood by every language of the earth all at once, can't be faked by man.

Tongues is one of the 9 spiritual gifts of the Holy Ghost, But if one speaks in tongues, Pray that one will interpretate the tongues. I myself, Gave messages in Tongues & someone else interpretated it, & visa versa, & I have also a few times gave a prophecy. but it all must be done in order, & not just right out in the middle of a sermon someone starts speaking in tongues.
