Is there a natural product? I don't want any pills, sprays or anything "drug" ever again after this Afrin thing. I never knew you could get addicted to it. In my case it is the nasal swelling that keeps me using it, not a drug. Right now, the swelling is pretty much gone, but I am still using a really small amount (one spray in each nostral in the middle of the night).

I used Afrin often about 16 years ago and my doctor said that it had destroyed my sinuses. There was about 85% damage. I had nasal surgery and could it took care of the whole problem. I rarely have congestion and do not use anything for it anymore. Afrin is hard to get off because it really does work well but it may cause nasal damage for some people.

What you're having is commonly known as "rebound" from the product. It's having the opposite affect. Get yourself a humidifier (if you're using heat in your house, the air is dry), and some saline spray. Here is what you do: you only use the Afrin in one nasal passage and the saline in the other one. That way, you can breathe and clear up one area at the time without feeling like you're smothering. Once the passage has recovered (might take a couple of weeks), then you only use the saline in the nostril in which you were applying the Afrin. Those 12 hr. sprays are murder! I think this will help you. Also remember that if you sleep on your side, say the right, your right nostril will normally become congested. All you have to do is roll over to your left side and it will open up. I don't know why, ask God...it's the way we're made. Godloveya honey.

Dry Nose Spray

You're going to want a Drug-free answer!
You might try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean).

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis.

Try Saline solution sold under that as a generic and Ocean as the brand it is a salinized distillation. There is also a product called Sino-Fresh that has anti bacterial and moisturizing components and is a very good option.

If you want to avoid chemical treatments that can be addictive and cause harm try the Hylands brand of cold and flu products and consult a Naturopathic for specific diet and nutrient need as well as a whole body approach to complete health maintenance. Good Luck!

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

It sounds like th AFrin has irritated your nasal passages, I know people use salt water or even just plain steam, be careful not to get too close to the water as you don't want to burn the lining of your nose. You could try lavender oil in water or rosemary in water to sniff in the night and see if that helps.

Try using a saline spray. I know you said that you don't want to use any sprays, but the saline would help your dry sinus swelling. But you should really see your doctor.
