My cat was leaving clear mucous behind yesterday and last night at 6pm clear liquid just gushed out like water breaking. She then had a discharge that was slightly bloody and was constantly washing herself. It's now after 8am and still no kittens. She's walking around, eating and drinking. But she won't leave my side and constantly wants attention, infact I woke up to her sleeping on me. She doesn't looked distressed or in pain and is still washing herself more than usual. This is her first litter and I'm worried something is wrong. Is this pre labor and everything is fine? Or is something terribly wrong and I need a vet immediately?

Thanks.

I just wanted to also say that I have already contacted a vet and am awaiting a call back from them. I appreciate all your answers and thank you so much for easing some of my worries :)

JUST AN UPDATE. Going to the vet now. Here's hoping everything's fine. I'm awefully worried about her eventhough she seems to be fine and oblivious to my constant worries :)

Does sound like she is in labor and its just taking a while. I wouldn't panic just yet. Cats can be in labor for up long time. If she hasn't had any babies by late afternoon then I may think about a trip to vet. Just make sure that when she does have them, there is a placenta for each kitten. She will normally eat this anyway but if there is a placenta missing and still inside of her it can do damage! Good luck and I hope you have fun with the new kittens!! One of my cats gave birth 4mths ago and I have another cat due sometime this month! I love Cats!!

Sounds like it will happen soon. Your vet should be made aware of these things anyway as many vets want to see Momma and kittens 24 hours after birth. Make a cozy place for her somewhere secluded like the closet. Use old towels.

I'm not sure but I remember my cat (when I was a child) also being very clingy towards me when her kittens were due

.....she actually ended up giving birth to them RIGHT ON TOP OF ME as I led in bed sleeping!! My parents woke me up at the end of it all and I had my cat and her new kittens all on top of me!!(I slept thru the entire thing - they said she was really loud, which had woke them up - but they didn't wanna wake me and frighten me and didn't wanna move her)

sorry I can't be of any more help with your question - but reading your Q brought back this memory, thought I'd share it with you

:)

She should have had the kittens by now. It is 8:00A.M. here my time U.S.A. Central time.. I would hope that if you cat hasn't had her kittens by now you should call the Vet.
