My filling in one of my back teeth has fell out and now a bit of the tooth has broken off, so looks kinda like a crater with a bit of the outside broken off. Would it be ok to just leave it or will it get infected etc?

The tooth can certainly become infected. Teeth are covered with enamel. Enamel is a hard substance that protects the softer core of a tooth from plaque and decay. The hole thats drill into your tooth exposes the core to food that can rot, plaque, and bacteria. All of which can cause infection. Make an appointment to have the tooth repaired ASAP. It's certainly not going to get any better if you don't do something about it.

first go to rite Aid or a drugstore and get a little tube of temporary filling. You put a piece in the hole and smooth it down, that will keep stuff from getting inside the exposes tooth until you can get into the dentist. You really should get it taken care of, unless you are willing to lose that tooth later on down the road. Once a tooth is drilled, it is much more open to new cavity growth if exposed to food and drink.

No don't leave it because the same thing happened to me and I left it for about 6 months as I couldn't afford to go to the dentist at the time. More of the tooth brook and the nerve got exposed and then by the time I did go to the dentist the tooth couldn't be saved.
I hate the fact I have a big gap now.

No, don't leave it, it could become infected! Make an appointment at your dentist (they should have some emergency appointments free) in the meantime, most Boots and large chemists stock products that temporarily fill your hole in the tooth until it is fixed properly. They are fairly cheap too - get down to your chemist. Good Luck

I would never leave it! It may not hurt you now, but it will hurt you eventually. Plus, if you let it go, the tooth could break down even further and you will have to get it pulled instead of fixed. You really want to try and keep all your teeth if possible. Losing them is not good at all. When you lose one it can affect the rest of your teeth. Also, if you let your broken tooth go it could become abscessed. Call your dentist!

No, it's not okay to just leave it. It will decay, and it could infect your gums or your jaw bone.

You need to go back to the dentist to either get the filling replaced, get a crown, or get the tooth pulled. Trust me, it's worth the time and trouble.

Perhaps you may not be aware of this, but untreated tooth decay, such as is the destiny of your tooth, could possibly spread beyond the roots and affect the fascia beneath.
Eventually if could spread to your heart and result in a condition known as Ludwig's Angina.
In a less severe case, the infection could affect the nerves in your jaw bone and tongue, causing you to lose sensation of your tongue and face, and your sense of taste as well.
In the luckiest case, you will suffer from extreme toothache that will affect your behaviour adversely, including increased bouts of aggresion.

no, you nutter. You need to get that seen to straight away otherwise you are going to have severe problems. An abscess could form and cause your4 teeth to rot therefore not having a nice smile for the opposite sex. Plus imagine all those bacteria that passes through the mouth, you could end up with severe infection.

It would be ok if you didn't mind infection and pain!! Go to the dentist, seriously, or you are likely to lose that tooth and probably suffer a lot until then. (My boyfriend doesn't look after his teeth and he is currently on like 10 painkillers a day cos his teeth hurt so much, awake at night etc, doing my head in, so please, for my sake, go to the dentist, pleeeease!!!)

Same thing happened to me 20 years back I simply ignored it but I faced and still facing some problems because some food particles stick there and cause infection however if you brush your teeth with toothpaste laced with 2 drops of clove oil on top of it then there will not be any problem whatsoever for years together.
