No HPV is only one of the ways a woman can get cervical cancer. It is the only virus that can give it, not all woman with HPV will get cervical cancer either.

As stated above HPV causes cervical cancer and not ovarian cancer. Some of the risk factors for ovarian cancer include:
a) family history
b) obesity
c) age
d) nulliparity (i,e not having any children)
On cervical cancer, no, not all women with cervical cancer has HPV, and neither do all HPV positive women have cervical cancer. However, HPV is a major cause of cervical cancer and a vaccine has already been developed in Australia against HPV. It is available to women AND men and is in the market now. It is recommended that young men and women who are sexually active and polygamous have this jab.

Like most posters, I misread/misunderstood your original question. I thought it was about cervical cancer not ovarian cancer.
No, cervical cancer, like any other cancer, is caused by mutations to the genetic sequence. HPV can introduce these bad genes but, they are NOT the only way. The "classic" carcinogens can possibly cause cancer.
Certain lymphomas (Burkitt's Lymphoma) are associated with viruses (Epstein-Barr) but, not all.
That being said, it is believed that the new HPV vaccine (Gardasil) will provide immunity to several strains of the human papilloma virus responsible for 70% of all cervical cancer cases.
As fore preventation of ovarian cancer, birth control pills may be prescribed for that. They regulate the menstrual cycle and prevent ovarian cysts (which may become cancerous).

Ovarian cancer is not linked to HPV.
HPV is virtually the cause of cervical cancer.

No, it's not the only way. Cervical cancer can develop on its own, just like any other cancer, HPV only makes it more likely.
Ovarian cancer, which you reference in your question, is a totally different thing.
