She is scheduled to be spayed next week, but she can't have the surgery while in heat right?

It lasts about 3 weeks (variable by dog, can be up to 5 weeks) and amount of bleeding varies on the dog - some a few drops - some bleed like stuck pigs. She MUST be kept strickly confined (under your two eyes at all times when outside for potty breaks) THIS IS WHEN SHE CAN BECOME PREGNANT and she plus all the neiborhood boys will try hard. Many pet stores sell sanatary belts or panties for the girls at this time thay help reduce mess (if your girl will leave them on) but do NOT count on it stopping the boys.
Spaying does prevent the problems

PS the time between heats is usually 6 months but can be slightly more or less. shorter cycles tend to go with an early start and at 5 months she's early

well im not sure how much blood there is going to be or how long it will last but i have a friend that has a pug. when the pug got her period then she would put a diaper on it. it helped her a lot so i hope it will help you too.

GET HER SPAYED! Please!!

It shouldn't last any more than a week or two and there might be a good amount of blood. There are products you can buy.

You get her spayed. Unspayed females have a much higher rate of developing cancer anyway.
