Depends on your body needs. If you are excreating more fluid through urination, vomit, and diaphoresis, then you need more so you don't get dehydrated. Also remember that wate is in all drinks and foods. You should drink eight glasses a day on a normal basis for a nrmal person. Remember different medical complications can cause you to kneed more or less.

Nobody knows for sure and different people have different views. Experts say that you should drink at least eight glasses of water every day; a glass of water is about 8 ounces US or about .227 kilograms. That estimate assumes that your environment is normally cool, you are about 150 pounds or about 68 kilograms, and exercise in some form, about 20 minutes a day. But every individual has different water consumption requirements and it is difficult to apply a general rule. How much water you need depends on your physical weight, your level of physical activity that day and your environmental conditions. Just remember that adequate hydration is a mandatory aspect of human and animal life.
The following web site has a water consumption calculator.

Most say 8+ glasses a day but for people with a history of kidney stones and other urinary problems, doctors say that's not enough--I get to drink between 1-2 gallons a day!

A general rule of thumb is to take your weight in pounds, divide it in half, and that's how many ounces of water you should drink daily.
for example: if you weight 150 lbs
you should drink 75 ozs of water daily.

8 eight-ounce glasses at least.
You should also drink two cups as soon as you get up in the morning. When we wake up our bodies are always somewhat dehydrated, and a lot of lingering junk in our systems (Urea, Uric acid etc.) needs to be cleansed out....
You should also go to the gym first thing in the morning too, but thats a different subject entirely ;)

The best thing is to listen to the body. But people have lost that touch, animals haven't. So people have to be taught to listen to the body, it tells everything.
A very good thing to do is Osho's "Reminding Yourself of the Forgotten Language of Talking to Your Mind and Body", it comes with the book "Body Mind Balancing" which has more details about it..
Otherwise, thirst is affected by your total health state. Different medicines in homeopathy, which correspond to different energy states of man, often have different levels of thirst associated with them. So as a constitutional homeopathic remedy helps you to be healthy, it also changes your thirst to match your body's requirements.
Yes I haven't answered the question directly, and it has no fixed numerical answer.
