I go through the grocery store and wonder who would eat these things?

It is soul food, used in traditional and modern soul food and African-American heritage recipes. They are usually found in the South due to their traditional origins.

I'm not sure why anyone who respected themselves would eat these things...but some people do.
Like the first answer said, they are often found in soul food and the origin of their use stems back to the days of slavery. When the master slaughtered a cow, pig or chicken, he took all of the decent cuts of meat and left the rest to the slaves. That's ALL they had to work with - cow tongue, cow stomach (aka tripe), pig feet, pig intestines (aka chitterlings), pig ankles (aka ham hocks), chicken feet, chicken wings, etc. The slaves took the garbage and did the best they could.
Now that we know better and know that those parts of the animal are not necessarily good for us (health wise), it baffles me as to why my people still eat that. (I personally don't...I'm a veggie). :-)

Black people, Mexicans and Asians. Sorry, not trying to be racist, but these are the people I've seen buy this stuff.
