I want to book a multistopover flight going from London to New Zealand for 3 months then to Australia for a year then back to London but I have tried a couple of sites and you can't book any flights over 360 days in advance!

How do people book these flights then? Should I get a one way to New Zealand which will work out a lot more expensive?

Any tips?

alot of travel companies dont allow you to book flights in advance of a year because the schedules have not been updated. This happens every year and once they are published tickets can then be sold. Best thing is to ring a travel agent up and see when they will be on their systems to purchase tickets.

It depends on which airline you fly with. Budget airlines sometimes allow booking further in advance, but if you're going to New Zealand I'm assuming you're looking at scheduled airlines.
Most of these airlines us central reservations systems like Galileo or Amadeus, which only allow booking 336 days in advance.
Whats best to do is buy tickets with Qantas or Air NewZealand. You'll have to book a 'dummy' return date, but most of their cheaper tickets are changeable locally for a fee of around £50.
On another note, you might find most of the tickets on their websites will be non-changeable, I would have a look at your local travel agent, the prices might suprise you, and the tickets they buy are generally a lot more flexable.
Hope this helps

Lots of people won't let you book that far in advance. The farthest in advance I have ever booked a flight was 6 months. The prices are the same as if you were going to get them 14 days in advance, but after 14 days in advance, you bet your gonna pay more.

Very simple - you purchase the ticket London-NZ or London-Oz return, but for the return leg you do not specify a date, you have "open" ticket. You would then need an additional return flight Oz-Nz or Nz-Oz. A good airline to ring for options would be Quantas, they have special tickets for working holiday visa makers.

Alternatively book several return flights and throw the ticket for the return leg of the flight away or sell it on ebay. I've done this in the cases it was cheaper for me to buy return flights than one-ways.
