Depends who is answering. Some people say LDS folks are a cult or free masons because in our scripture it uses "secret combination" as well as the free masons do. A secret combination could be anything really, anything evil. Things that happen in an LDS temple are sacred not secret. Things that others would find odd and probably stupid if they were not devout Mormons. In the temple we perform baptisms for the dead, which we talk about all the time. We do not talk about the endowment or the sealing of a couple (temple marriage) because these things are very scared to our heart and others would not understand our own personal journeys that we go through while in the temple. Wow people really can't have any privacy without negativity from others who just do not understand.

Nobody who belongs to a secret society will tell you so, or else they would be expelled for not keeping the secret.

But if you look at it from a realistic point of view, the things that take place at the LDS Temples throughout the world are also secret. And those who visit the Temple, whether it is in Utah or Guatemala, or Santo Domingo, (etc), must swear not to divulge what they have been told and what they have seen.

It is then safe to say that the LDS Church is also a secret society.
