I've installed Vista to a partitioned drive, and I've had no problems with it what so ever. A lot of people are simply ignoring using the "Vista Readiness Tool", refusing to research information about this new operating system, and therefore, blindly installing Vista on hopes for the best.
I think Vista is an excellent operating system, IF, your system can handle it. Besides, there was not much good of talk about XP when it first arrived either, and all for the same reasons I've mentioned above.

There are no significantly new features that demand updating to Vista from XP Pro SP2.
The cons to upgrading at the moment are obvious - this is a relatively early release for Vista, many programs (even Microsoft made) do not support Vista, printer drivers, etc. are incompatible in some cases and it will be at least 6 months before there are any genuine advantages to Vista in terms of its stability/usability. Whereas, XP Pro has proven itself capable of standing on its own two feet unattended for reasonable periods of time - after beta testing and having run multiple instances of Vista across different configurations of computers, Vista is not YET stable enough or compatible enough to make it worthwhile spending $$$ on upgrading!
Give it 6-12months before upgrading, let technology roll on a bit and allow Vista to become part of the furniture, and then (if you really want to see your Windows side-on in poxy-semi-demi-3D style-ish) you can look to upgrading to Vista.

Nope! Not a single thing about Vista is of interest to me.
XP is the most stable and compatible OS Microsoft has EVER released. IF you want to see ALL the problems Vista is causing, just type in Vista in the SEARCH FOR QUESTIONS: above
