This is not a question, more of a plea! If your dog has epilepsy PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE visit darleen@purelypets.com!
Last week i made the dreaded appointment to have my dog put to sleep. He was having fits daily and not just one!My vet could not get them under control,as a last resort i contacted the above and am i glad i did?
In the first 2 days he didn't fit and has only had 2 fits in a week!!!!
He is making progress every day and is much stronger now,we are now very slowly reducing his medication and so far so good. I should point out that he is on a massive dose of Phenobarbitone and Gentrex, the Phenobarbitone is very hard on the Liver and Kidneys and can cause real damage to these organs.
PLEASE VISIT THIS SITE!!!!!!!!!!!

Dogs can have epileptic fit with numerous and no causes. Some breeds are prone to fits, such as dobermans and standard poodles. Brain injuries can cause fits and diabetes type syndromes. Inheirent diseases affecting the hypothalmus and thyroid gland can cause a type of fit that may affect behaviour and brain function. Some causes are unknown such as a grand mal equivelent in dogs (have witnessed these and its scary as f*ck). Most people dont even realise that their pets are experiencing seizures until it get bad enough that medication to control the fits is hard to dose correctly, leading to months and months worth of pain for the owners and dogs. Any site trying to educate dog owners is worthwhile even if it just gets people thinking. Millions of dollars a year get poured into research for human control of fits, yet, all pets get is the leftovers from human testing. If my dog had fits i would gladly submit her to research and development of medication for dogs, provided i could keep her as a (monitored) family pet, just so other people had a chance for their beloved family pets to lead a normal family life. Its a heart breaking situation for any one to be in, and i hope a safe medication is found soon to regulate fits in people as well as dogs. Any site devoted to educating people about this condition is ok with me, whether they are right or wrong, as long as they draw attention to the heartache it causes.
