The most important factor is the skill of the artist... I think that "Meditative Rose" could look pretty cool, but it wouldn't in the overall themes I plan to ink into me.
Most of Dali's works are VERY detailed and some artists may overwork the skin in order to blend colors... this could quite possibly result in scarring.
I'd suggest that, because of the detail, you get a large tattoo... the back would be a prime location. It can be difficult to get a stencil to look right on the body, but freehanding the whole tattoo could very well end up disastrous.
Decide if you really want this tattoo and which piece you have your heart set on, then find a competent artist and look over his (or her) portfolio carefully. Odds are that if the artist can do a realistic-looking portrait tattoo, he can probably match the colors of the paintings. (Note: Plan on caring for your tattoo, traveling to get it done and going through several sessions... if it's going onto your body, it is worth it to get the tattoo "done right."
There are some tattooists who specialize in "fine art tattooing" ...if you ask this question on QOD on BMEzine.com you will probably get some referrals to awesome artists. I used to have some names and links to online portfolios, but I have since moved and switched careers.

To add to the above, Dali's work has so much detail that you'd need a large place to work on, unless you only take a part of a painting. For example, take just the clock on the ledge (and maybe the ledge itself) or the dead tree & clock. That latter one could be very cool with the extended branch going over the upper arm and the rest of the tree on the shoulder.
As mentioned, you'd need a *good* artist. This is a non-trivial piece.
For some reason initially I was thinking Munch when you said Dali; the Scream I'm sure has been used for a tat, if only the screaming part. And if not, it would be very, very cool.

do you want to know which Dali's we would pick as a tatoo? and where?
ok. i'd get the meditative rose tattooed on my low lower back.
if i were you, i would research tatoo artists in my area though if you haven't done so already and select one according to its achievements and reputation, not because he/she is cheaper than the others.then, have the artist and yourself reproduce the picture on paper first, then pencil it in on your skin. I would think that a detailed reproduction would take more than one or two visits.
I like/have tatoos and spent good amount of money and time to get them. I have seen too many bad tatoos...Remember, you have to live with them for the rest of your life or get laser and a scar.

it is a very good idea however many times paintings do not translate well onto skin. it is hard to get the illusion of depth on the skin. i have seen a few dali pieces that weren't impressive. i'm sure there are some that are good but it's just too much of a risk. i MAY trust an extremely talented competent artist to do one but there would really have to be a lot of trust between us.

I love Dali and I think it would make an awesome tattoo. Location really depends on whether you want it to show and when and how big you want it.

The reason you look different in photo's and mirrors, is that mirrors reflect your image. Your image is literally flipped. A lot of the time people don't like pictures of themselves, is because they are not seeing it flipped. So in the respect, an image is more 'true to life' BUT at the same time, pictures capture you at a moment. They don't show you moving, the show you posing most of the time, for some people that just doesn't look good. (Me, for example. xD) Mirrors offer a video type look at yourself, but clearer and in real time. I think it's safe to say, if you look good in a mirror, you look good in real life.

That could be really, really cool, or just disastrous. Make sure the artist you pick can do a decent reproduction of a famous work of art...I agree with back placement, and go bigger...=0)
