Could I have contracted it any other way? If no, does he also have herpes and should be be tested. Does this mean he has been unfaithful?

both of u need to get treatment. Otherwise it will be a ping pong game between the two of u. Just like one of the answers above me said, one of u could have contracted it long before you guys were married and it lay dormant. It happens so relax.

First question, has this diagnosis been confirmed by serology or swab? On occasion Herpes Simplex, the cold sore virus, may affect the genital area and will look clinically similar to Herpes Genitalis! So it is very important to type the virus. If it is simply the cold sore strain, you have no worries.
If your husband has been your only sexual contact this must also include oral sex, since the virus can also be spread that way.I suspect if it is still the case that he has been your only contact EVER, that he would be the source.
Herpes can remain dormant for many years and the possibility exists that his infection occurred before you were married and has lain dormant. I can't exclude your other possibility though.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. Someone I know was extremely ill with genital herpes and was accused of being unfaithful by her partner. When she was tested for the herpes type, it was shown that her partner had passed on his oral herpes. There are two types, herpes simplex 1 and 2. If you are worried, ask to have the type identified.

Didn't your doctor talk to you about the diagnosis? You should get advice from a doctor not like this. You need advice on how this happened and also treatment options which have progressed somewhat in recent years. You also need advice on safe sex etc. Take heart, the outbreaks become fewer and the severity reduces in many people over time. Get some good advice....maybe go to your local STD clinic they will have all the up to date information and will answer all your questions. Good luck!

Like Dr. Frank said, you could have the virus that causes fever blisters, herpes 1. It is possible to infect the genital area by touching a fever blister and then touching genital area.

does ur husband ever get cold sores or carries the cold sore virus(herpes). symptoms of cold sore virus maybe itchiness around the lip area if ur a carreir u dont have to have a cold sore to carry the virus. i know this mite be nothin to do with an answer for u u mite think but if he ever gives u oral pleasure when the cold sore virus is active u can catch the virus down there.

How long have you been married? If you have been married oh.......10yrs, (get him tested, see a lawyer because that don't lay dormant for 10 yrs with out a outbreak. And If he knew he had the virus and didnot tell you he had it and was just having sex when the cankers were clear up.......what a ***!)

The only way to get herpes is through sex. It doesn't necessarily mean he has cheated though, it can lay dormant in the system, so he may have contracted it before he met you
