Meat has protien and there are a few vegetables (like soya) etc which actually have more protein per gram than meat.
Meat in moderation is good, but if eaten every day causes many disceases.
When you are born, first you have mothers milk , then cows milk , followed by all other kinds of food. It is disgusting to note that certain people eat the meat of the cow - how can they eat the meat of a cow, when they were drinking cows milk as babies.

There is no doubt that Indian culture is very good and I am proud to be an Indian.
However it does not prohibits any body to take non-veg foods since time immemorial.
Scientifically, logically, religiuosly and ethically also it is not incorrect to take non-veg foods.
Scientifically both plants and animals are having one basic unit
common i.e. cell.
It contents are remarkably common except few like chlorophyl,
centrosome, plastids, vacuoles etc. These cell constitute the whole body of an animal or a plant.
Now basic difference being its unability to create sound [ cry ] when broken /eaten /plucked, a plant or vegitable, does not make it eatable, ethically and logically.
People eat vegitables just becoz they dont scream or cry ? ??
People drink milk which was actually meant for the calf and not for any other purpose. Where is their ethics ?
There may be a reason that blood of the killed animal makes them have a guilty feeling, which is red and like ours becoz of
hoemoglobin. But then the blood of plants, incidently not red, is as
important as red blood.
We love to kill kockroaches just becoz they dont have red blood.[?]
The canines are the teeth which are not found in Herbivorous
animals. The fact that canines are present in humen beings make
it clear that humen are Omnivorous as the God meant us to be.
Religiously also, there are no. of 'Shlokas' in Vedas which instruct men to eat meat.
However for health point of view one should prefer vegitables
though there are some protiens which can only be found in meat.

It is all relative!!!!
For e.g.: I am an Indian and I too share the same tradition and culture as yours. But I am even more stringent with the fact you have mentioned, namely, Why kill animals at all? (even during festivals!!!), when you have so many fruits, vegetables, cereals & pulses, spices & herbs available. There are other Indians who just cannot consume the above since they are allergic or have other health problems and hence have to stick on to a strictly non-veg diet. That is why we have the proverb: "One Mans Food Is Other Mans Poison"

All the creatures of Earth "feed" each other. It's known as the food chain. And Native teachings say the creatures of Earth are happy to do these things for each other!
Read the book of Job in the Bible. Chapter 12.
About Earth Mother and the creatures of Earth.
The ecosystem is designed so that no one
form of life can dominate all the rest. Even
on the bacterial level, the forces of the Universe
work to build up, and break down and recycle
things. Material, energy wise, psychic, and spiritually.
Of all the creatures of Earth. Humans are the only ones who throw the ecosystem OUT of balance. Because we take more then we need. And waste what we take.
Everything on Earth is for the benefit of man. Overindulgence is the evil.

It is not the question of India or U.S.A.
Truth is Truth either in India or U.S.A.
As per Biologists and nutritionists, human's intestinal tract is unsuitable for digesting meat. Flesh-eating animals have short intestinal tracts (three times the length of the animal's body), to pass rapidly decaying toxin-producing meat out of the body quickly. Since plant foods decay more slowly than meat, plant-eaters have intestines at least six times the length of the body. Human beings have the long intestinal tract of a herbivore, so if humas eat meat, toxins can overload the kidneys and lead to gout, arthritis, rheumatism, and even cancer.
Regarding eating non-veg food.
The goat is sacrificed in a yajna on a amavasya to Goddess Kali and the animal flesh is eaten by sudras. The Sanskrit word mamsa means “meat.” It is said, mam sah khadati iti mamah. That is, “I am now eating the flesh of an animal who will some day in the future be eating my flesh.” Th purpose of this is that the person will come to his senses and stop killing animals and stop eating meat, bones, blood etc. . . Eating animal flesh is to restrict them and not to indulge in daily killing of animals or even occasional sacrifice.

In olden days people were not aware of the food, now science has improved and we do know about the different forms of food ,so it is high time we choose to become vegetarian, only people who have no knowledge/poor people may use animal food in the form of medicine when a person is sick/too young and in the process of gaining knowledge can stop/ withdraw from eating animal as food.

Isn't there a shortage of women in India because couples are aborting their girl babies? Not that I think India is "bad", I like India a lot, but they've got problems too.
