the desktop shortcuts can be enlarged and they will stay enlarged till you minimize them. there are two ways of enlarging a shortcut:-
1-drag it enlarge it
2-click the circle on the place on top right corner of the window

what do you mean by open in small size.. do you mean they look small...
if so then right click on the start menu then click properties, then there should be an option for it..
or right click on the desktop then click on properties, then go to the last tab, which will say appearance, then adjust the resolution...to however you want it.

maximizes the windows page manual to a extend.
next time u open the page it will open the windows the size u made it
