I regularly freeze bottles of water so they melt through the day and can be drunk in a hot aussie summer.
I have noticed that when they start to melt the first meltings have a peculiar taste, salty or acidic.
What is it in the water that melts first and tasted this way?

Yes the bottles are rinsed out and clean.
To clarify, the funny taste is only evident as the ice starts to melt and you drink the first 100 ml's or so.
Maybe it is brisbane water!

I havent experiened this but I have heard the latest warnings now say that it is unsafe to do this because something about the plastic bottle can contaminate your water and be harmful to you.

Listen to Mom up there. Toxic stuff in the plastic leaches out into the water during the freeze/thaw process.
So cut it out!
