I have a 1997 Ford Escort 1800 Zetec, i need to remove and clean the idle air control value. Is there anyone who has had hands on experience who can give me some advice on doing it.Thanks.

unbolt it, use a glass of petrol and dip it in that for five mins, use a soft paintbrush and clean around the inside.
dry for a couple of hours or use compressed air.

or like me use a can of silicone spray, a bit of tissue and dry with a rag, worked for me!

I assume this is because the idle has gone "up the creek" and the engine keeps stalling, probably after about 50,000 miles Although they can be cleaned , in the long term it`s better to fit a new one. For some odd reason they just don't seem to work very well or for long after cleaning, so you might as well "bite the bullet" and fit a new one. Saves doing the job twice !
